Student Policies

Clear expectations for academic integrity, conduct, and student rights.

Academic Integrity

South Geauga Theology University holds academic honesty as a foundational value. Students are expected to complete all coursework independently and with integrity.

The following constitute academic integrity violations:

  • Submitting work that is not your own, including AI-generated content presented as original scholarship without disclosure
  • Plagiarism — copying text, ideas, or structures from any source without proper attribution
  • Cheating on quizzes or assessments through unauthorized collaboration or external aids
  • Fabrication of data, citations, or credentials
  • Misrepresentation of prior academic credentials during the admissions verification process

Violations are reviewed by the Dean of Academic Affairs. Consequences range from assignment resubmission to program termination without refund, depending on severity.

Student Code of Conduct

As a faith-based institution, SGTU expects all students to conduct themselves with respect, honesty, and Christian character in all interactions — including discussion forums, email communications, and assignment submissions.

  • Treat fellow students, faculty, and staff with dignity and respect
  • Engage in course discussions constructively and with intellectual humility
  • Communicate disagreements with courtesy and a spirit of mutual learning
  • Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or threatening language
  • Represent your academic work and credentials truthfully at all times

Completion Expectations

SGTU programs are self-paced and do not have fixed deadlines. However, students are expected to maintain reasonable academic progress.

  • Programs are designed for completion within 10–16 months depending on degree level
  • Students who do not complete any coursework for 12 consecutive months may be placed on inactive status
  • Inactive students may reactivate their enrollment by contacting admissions — completed coursework is preserved
  • Per-course students maintain access to purchased courses indefinitely
  • Full-program students maintain access as long as their enrollment is active

Grading Philosophy

SGTU uses a competency-based assessment model. The goal is to confirm that students have achieved the learning outcomes for each module, not to rank students against each other.

  • Module quizzes assess foundational knowledge — a passing score (typically 70%) is required
  • Written assignments are evaluated on comprehension, application, and quality of theological reflection
  • Students may reattempt quizzes after a cooling period (admin may reset attempts if needed)
  • Assignment feedback is provided by faculty to support academic growth
  • Final program grades are recorded as Pass/Fail for credential issuance purposes

Academic Appeals Process

Students who believe an assessment outcome, academic decision, or policy application was made in error may submit a formal appeal.

  • Appeals must be submitted in writing to admissions@southgeauga.com within 14 days of the decision
  • The appeal should include: student name, program, the specific decision being appealed, and the basis for the appeal
  • The Dean of Academic Affairs will review the appeal and respond within 10 business days
  • The Dean's decision is final for all academic matters
  • Admissions verification decisions may be appealed by submitting additional documentation

SGTU is committed to fair, transparent processes. Students are encouraged to communicate concerns early and directly.
